The Academy is the realization of a longtime dream of founder Tim Thoelecke Jr. His company Garden Concepts designed and built custom residential landscapes for nearly 20 years and won numerous awards and press recognition. Garden Concepts' Vision Statement reads "Be recognized, within and outside the profession, as an innovative leader in the design and installation of high quality, custom residential landscapes." That vision is behind the mission of the Academy as well.
The American Academy of Landscape Design was created in response to a long-standing need in the industry for high quality, efficient training in the field of landscape design. Professional landscape designers and landscape architects are busy people, especially at certain times of the year. Spring can be "like trying to drink out of a fire hydrant," according to one familiar with the seasonal rush. For this reason, classes are offered only in the "off season" from November through March
The American Academy of Landscape Design offers a selection of intensive 2 to 3-day courses that focus on honing your creative prowess with personal coaching in classroom subjects running the gamut from design theory through construction techniques to business practices and sales. Taught by industry professionals in the easily-accessible Chicago-area, AALD training improves the real-world skills of landscape designers and architects who are serious about building reputations for high-quality residential work. |
